It's Time to Talk

Talking about how we're feeling can make a real difference.

Checking in with friends, classmates, colleagues and family members helps build supportive relationships and reminds people they are not alone.

Here are three simple ways to start the conversation.

Check in

You don't have to meet in person to show someone you care. A phone call, video chat, text message or social media message can let someone know you're thinking of them and ready to listen.

Listen without judgement

If someone chooses to open up, remember that you don't need to have all the answers.

Simply listening, showing empathy and taking them seriously can make a huge difference. Sometimes being heard is exactly what someone needs.

Ask again

If you're worried about someone, don't be afraid to check in more than once.

A simple "How are you really doing?" can encourage someone to share how they're feeling when they're ready.
