This course offers extensive training in contemporary and jazz dance techniques, acting and singing. We also teach you about the performance industry and the opportunities available within it.

You will take part in five assessed performances over the year in front of an external audience, as well as having the exciting opportunity to audition for a full-length musical, with previous students performing shows such as Les Misérables and Sweeney Todd.

Course Information

Four GCSEs at grades 9-4, or a Merit in a full Level 2 BTEC Diploma.

(If combining a BTEC with an A Level, the entry criteria for that A Level will need to be met too). Plus, a successful audition.

Extended Certificate (Equivalent to 1 A Level)

Assessed through a combination of externally assessed units and internally assessed coursework. Students complete practical performances, workshops, rehearsals, written evaluations and creative projects. The qualification is designed to be studied alongside other A Levels or Level 3 qualifications.

Diploma (Equivalent to 2 A Levels)

Assessed through a larger programme of externally assessed units and internally assessed coursework. Students undertake more extensive performance projects, professional practice activities and production work, enabling greater specialisation and industry preparation.

Previous students have progressed to professional training colleges such as Laine Theatre Arts, Bird College, Italia Conti, Masters Performing

Arts College, Tiffany Theatre College and Performers College, as well as leading arts universities such as the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts and the Guildford School of Acting.

Career opportunities include West End performer, choreographer, company director, teacher, technician, stage manager, theatre blogger, costume designer, set designer, front of house, marketing assistant, presenter and more.

You will learn in our fully equipped dance and drama studios. A large performance space and soundproof music practice booths are also available for both rehearsal and performance. Following the success of our recent full-scale musicals, Les Misérables School Edition, Sweeney Todd and Chicago, we offer weekly extracurricular musical theatre and dance classes, which lead to a full-scale musical. You will gain industry experience by taking on lead roles, both on stage and behind the scenes, in a variety of assessed and non-assessed performances.

Extended Certificate

Heavily performance-based with supporting written analysis and evaluation. Approximately 70% practical / 30% theory.

Diploma

Greater emphasis on practical rehearsal, performance and production work across a wider range of units. Approximately 80% practical / 20% theory.
