Do you enjoy Maths at school? Do you like solving problems? Do you feel confident with the work you have covered so far at GCSE? If so, you should take A Level Maths.

Maths is a demanding and challenging subject, but it can be

extremely rewarding if you are prepared to put in the time and effort.

Maths has wide applications in areas such as engineering, business, finance, science, computing and technology. In fact, there continues to be a national shortage of qualified mathematicians, so this course will give you a competitive edge with future employers.

Course Information

At least five GCSEs at grades 9-4 in one sitting. An average GCSE score of 5 or more is preferred. GCSE English and Maths at grade 4.

Three written examinations are taken at the end of the two-year course. There is no coursework component. The assessment consists of:

Paper 1: Pure Mathematics and Mechanics
Paper 2: Pure Mathematics and Statistics
Paper 3: Pure Mathematics and Comprehension

All three papers are externally assessed and contribute to the final A Level grade.

Entirely theory-based. Assessment is 100% written examinations with no coursework or practical assessment. Students develop problem-solving and modelling skills throughout the course, but these are examined through written papers. 0% practical / 100% theory.

An A Level in Maths can lead to almost any degree or apprenticeship.

You could study maths, natural sciences, physics, engineering, economics, architecture, accountancy, meteorology, biology,

chemistry, business, psychology, medicine, dentistry, veterinary science, data science, computer science and more.

Career routes include accountancy, architecture, cyber security, data analysis, engineering, medicine, programming, software development and teaching.

Maths develops excellent problem-solving skills, which are highly sought after by universities and employers.

We offer weekly maths workshops, where you can practise techniques and stretch your knowledge alongside students from other classes. Our maths teachers are passionate, caring experts in their field and dedicated to ensuring students make outstanding progress. This has been demonstrated through years of excellent results. In A Level Mathematics, teachers use information effectively to set challenging target grades, providing individualised support for students. This ensures that students quickly improve their understanding of mathematical concepts and identify the areas in which they need to improve (Ofsted, February 2025).
