Are you interested in becoming a leader in the NHS, health charities, social organisations or another

care-related role? Our Health and Social Care course offers a comprehensive exploration of the sector, allowing you to complete two examined units and two internally assessed units.

These units will enhance your applied knowledge and understanding of health and social care.

This qualification is designed to complement A Levels, linking well with subjects such as Psychology, Biology or English, and serves as a pathway to higher education and employment. As a theory-based qualification, you will study human lifespan development, applying this knowledge to real-world scenarios in preparation for exams.

Your coursework portfolio will focus on the principles of health and social care, emphasising values and a person-centered approach to working with vulnerable individuals. Additionally, the summer exam will cover person-centred biology and health, including body systems and energy processes, equipping you with essential knowledge and skills for a career or degree in healthcare. The second coursework portfolio will promote health education, exploring relevant theories and models.

Course Information

Four GCSEs at grades 9-4, or a Merit in a full Level 2 BTEC Diploma. Grade 4 or above in GCSE English and Maths is preferred.

If you want to combine your AAQs with an A Level, you will

need to meet the entry criteria for that A Level too.

This qualification is equivalent in size to one A Level and is designed to be studied alongside other Level 3 qualifications. Students complete a combination of externally assessed examinations and internally assessed assignments. Assessment is split approximately 50% external assessment and 50% internal assessment across four units.

All theory based. No practical element or work experience. Health and Social Care combines academic study with applied vocational learning. Students complete assignments based on realistic health and care scenarios alongside externally assessed examinations. Approximately 50% coursework/assignments and 50% examination.

This qualification will be taken alongside other courses as part of a two-year programme of learning, such as A Level Biology, Psychology and AAQ Medical Science. This will enable you to progress to a degree programme chosen from a range of programmes in, or linked to, the health and social care sector.

The qualification carries UCAS points and is recognised by higher education institutions as contributing towards meeting admission requirements for many relevant courses.
