Graphics is a highly academic subject, but can also be a very rewarding and

creative outlet.

Graphic designers create visual branding, adverts, brochures, magazines, website designs, product packaging, illustrations, animations

and displays. Graphics is a fantastic creative subject that develops transferable skills applicable with other creative arts based courses, such as Art and Design, Media and Photography.

You will explore and produce practical and critical/contextual work across multiple design-based disciplines, including image editing,

digital manipulation, layout, illustration, hand drawn typography, printing, mark making, collage and construction, painting, drawing and photography.

Course Information

At least five GCSEs at grades 9-4 in one sitting. An average GCSE score of 5 or more is preferred.

GCSE English and Maths at grade 4. Plus, a grade 5 in an Art related GCSE and a successful portfolio.

Assessment is through a Personal Investigation (60%) and an Externally Set Task (40%). Students produce a portfolio of practical design work supported by a written related study and complete a 15-hour supervised practical examination. There are no written examination papers.

Significantly practical with supporting contextual research and written analysis. Approximately 85% practical / 15% theory and written research. Assessment weighting is 60% Personal Investigation and 40% Externally Set Task.

Graphics is an excellent course if you want to go on to study graphic design, games design, illustration, 3D design, fashion

communication, photography, marketing or animation. Want to stay local?

At the University of Suffolk at East Coast College, we offer degree courses such as Creative Arts Practice, Visual Artistic Practices, allowing you to gain a degree on your doorstep. You can also progress to universities across the UK and develop a career as an animator, art director, concept artist, creative director, freelance graphic designer, illustrator, interior and spatial designer, marketing specialist, production artist, product developer or user interface designer

You will be taught by professional tutors in a purpose-built art department, complete with a photographic studio, Mac suite, Cintiq drawing tablets, DSLR cameras and personal access to the Adobe Creative Cloud editing suite. You will benefit from course trips to visit events and locations such as Norwich University of the Arts GradFest, national art galleries, The Design Museum and UCAS Create Your Future. Your course will end with an exhibition, which will look fantastic on your CV and give you the opportunity to celebrate all the brilliant work you have created with your peers.
