Do you want to explore how the environment works and how our interactions affect it?

Geography gives you the skills to understand the fast-changing world we live in today.

It is an exploration of changes in space and place over time, looking at both human behaviour and natural world processes. It is therefore an extremely exciting subject that combines approaches from both social and physical sciences.

We provide a balance of both human and physical topics. Some of the main areas covered include coastal landscape systems, hazardous earth (volcanoes and earthquakes), climate change, global migration systems, global governance of human rights, the Earth’s life support systems and urban geography.

Course Information

At least five GCSEs at grades 9-4 in one sitting. An average GCSE score of 5 or more is preferred.

GCSE English and Maths at grade 4. Plus, a grade 5+ in GCSE

Geography preferred.

AS Level: 2 Exams at the end of the 1st year including questions regarding fieldwork, A Level: 3 Exams at the end of the 2nd Year plus NEA .

80% theory and 20% coursework. 

Many students progress to university to study degrees in subjects including geography, geology, environmental science and civil engineering.

As Geography develops a wide range of analytical skills, it is highly valued in careers such as cartography, climate change analysis, meteorology, chartered surveying and estate agency, tourism and recreation management, local government, water conservation, as well as in businesses within the insurance and energy sectors.

Take part in several day trips to places in the local areas and make use of the geography on our doorstep.

For your coursework, you will be able to pick topics that interest you within the syllabus that are relevant to our chosen study area. Hear from guest speakers about current geographical issues and attend university workshops and enrichment sessions run by CEFAS on marine biology and the environment.
