At least five GCSEs at grades 9-4 in one sitting. An average GCSE score of 5 or more is preferred.

GCSE English and Maths at grade 4.

There are two written examinations and one Non-Exam Assessment (NEA) completed over the two-year course. Component 1 (Varieties of Film and Filmmaking) is worth 35%, Component 2 (Global Filmmaking Perspectives) is worth 35%, and Component 3 (Production) is worth 30%. Students are assessed through both analytical study and practical film production.

Film Studies combines academic film analysis with practical production work. Approximately 30% practical production / 70% theory and examination. The practical element is assessed through the NEA film-making project, while the theoretical element is assessed through two written examinations.

This A Level can provide you with the UCAS points required, as well as the theoretical and practical experience needed for a variety of university degrees, such as media production, film studies, television production, media and creative writing, and much more.

Career opportunities within the media industry can range from roles such as TV runner, researcher, camera operator, sound engineer, journalist and photographer to higher-level positions such as editor, screenplay writer, director, producer and director of photography, once industry experience has been gained over time.
