The Digital Music Production course will equip you with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in the digital music industry through a wide range of practical topics. You will learn the advanced techniques needed to become a proficient user of industry-standard recording software.

You will dive into the world of sound design and synthesis, creating your own software instruments and bespoke sounds from scratch while learning the fundamental principles of sound. You will also use your skills to create music and sound effects for film, video games and other media.

In your second year, you will learn advanced recording, mixing and mastering techniques, producing a music project of your choice. This could be an EP, an album or a computer game soundtrack.

Course Information

Four GCSEs at grades 9-4, or a Merit in a full Level 2 BTEC Diploma.

GCSE English and Maths at grade 4 preferred. (If combining a BTEC with an A Level, the entry criteria for that A Level will need to be met too).

One unit assessed by 15-hour controlled assessment after Easter in Year 1.  Four more coursework units across the two years.  Coursework is a mixture of written and practical work.

60% practical and 30% theory.

You can progress to university to study a variety of arts-related subjects. Students have gone on to study Music Technology, Film Composition, Audio Engineering, Music Business, Sonic Arts, Electronic Music Production and Popular Music Performance.

The course will open doors to a wide range of job opportunities within the creative arts industries, including roles such as music producer, sound engineer, composer for film and TV, acoustician, record company A&R representative, electronic musician, foley artist, audio technician and teacher.

The college boasts cutting-edge recording studios with a 16-channel mixing desk, soundproofed recording rooms, industry-standard microphones and recording software, as well as a suite of 16 PCs equipped with high-end recording software, MIDI keyboards, headphones and audio interfaces.

The college provides opportunities to work on a range of projects, including being part of the tech crew for gigs and musical theatre productions, as well as having access to the studios to work on your own music projects.

Our industry links have allowed us to be involved in fantastic projects with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Aldeburgh Music, the Marina Theatre and the Broads Authority, giving our students priceless experiences of working within industry settings.
