This programme provides the essential academic knowledge required to enter the games industry and is a preferred pathway for pursuing computer games design and development degrees.
Throughout the course, you will explore a variety of engaging topics, including 3D modelling, 3D animation, 3D environments, 2D animation, games testing, digital media skills, pre-production techniques, 3D environments, computer game design and engines, video games
programming (Scripting) and using a game engine. Additionally, you will gain proficiency in various software tools, such as Blender for 3D modelling, Photoshop for digital art, and game engines like Unreal Engine, Unity, and Game Maker Studio 2.

Four GCSEs at grades 9-4, or a Merit in a full Level 2 BTEC Diploma.
GCSE English and Maths at grade 4 preferred. (If combining a BTEC with an A Level, the entry criteria for that A Level will need to be met too).
This qualification is designed for students interested in careers in game design, digital media and the creative industries. It develops practical industry-standard skills through project-based learning. Learners follow the Game Design pathway, building a portfolio of work using professional software and production techniques. Assessment is primarily through internally assessed coursework and practical projects rather than traditional examinations.

This course is highly practical and vocationally focused. Students spend most of their time creating games, digital assets and production projects using industry-standard software. Approximately 80% practical project work / 20% theory and research. Assessment is largely portfolio and coursework based.
This course will prepare you for a variety of degree and career opportunities. You can pursue degrees in fields such as game design, production, animation, art, programming and 3D architectural design. If you prefer to stay local, the University of Suffolk at East Coast College offers a degree in Visual Effects and Post-Production, allowing you to earn a degree in your local area. There are also numerous exciting opportunities in both the games industry and related fields, including game development, digital animation, 3D architectural design, graphic design and more.
