Have you ever wondered why your siblings look like you? How medicines work? Why is DNA so important? Whether clones exist? Whether cabbages can communicate?

A Level Biology will give you an exciting insight into the contemporary world of biology. You will learn how to apply your knowledge, investigate and solve problems in a range of contexts.

Based in our spacious, modern laboratories, this course covers a range of engaging topics, including cloning and biotechnology, biodiversity, ecosystems, exchange and transport in animals and plants, cell structure, homeostasis, biomolecules, populations and sustainability, the nervous system, and disease pathogenesis.

Course Information

At least five GCSEs at grades 9-4 in one sitting. An average GCSE score of 5 or more is preferred. GCSE English and Maths at grade 4.

There are two AS exams at the end of the first year followed by three A2 exams at the end of the two years. There is no coursework, but a practical endorsement which assesses practical skills throughout the two years.

Biology is 10% practical and 90% theory. 

A Level Biology is an excellent foundation for healthcare-related university degrees, such as medicine, veterinary science and dentistry, as well as biological sciences, biochemistry, marine biology and environmental science.
